SESSION 1 The DEN & Beyond: Expanding your PLN- The tools available to us today provide almost countless possibilities for professional learning and networking. This session will introduce participants to the DEN's presence on Twitter, Facebook and other social media, and then will go beyond that to look at social media, blogs, and other sources teachers can use to expand their PLN. Spotlight on Strategies- Are you looking for creative ways to easily and effectively integrate Discovery Education resources in your class? We’ve heard your S.O.S call! Go hands on in this interactive session and explore the popular DEN Blog series “Spotlight on Strategies”. Teachers of every grade level, subject area and will walk away with classroom-ready tips and tricks for integrating DE media. Discovery Education 101- Engage your learners like never before! Learn new instructional strategies for differentiating instruction and gathering evidence of what your students know. This session will highlight a variety of resources to help you get started using Discovery Education Streaming including Board Builder, My DE, My Content, Quicklist, and more! SESSION 2 DEN Meets GAFE- In this session we will explore how Google Apps for Education can work hand in hand with Discovery Education. Whether it be Google Apps, add-ons or extensions; these tools will not only support your work within Discovery Education but also engage your students as well. Differentiating Instruction in the Y2K Classroom- Teachers can't possibly work any harder than than they do to meet student needs and ensure student success. Using a wide variety of tools, however, teachers and students alike, can learn to work differently to best support student and teacher growth. SESSION 3 DE Board Builder- In this session you’ll go hands-on to explore how Board Builder can be used by teachers and students. You’ll learn creative way to present lessons, set up stations and organize digital resources. We’ll also explore ways students can to merge their own research, writing, and content creation with existing Discovery Education resources to create their own boards. (Bring your favorite device!) DE Student Center- Put the power of learning at student’s fingertips with Discovery Education Student Center. With unique logins, students can browse grade-specific content, access personalized assignments, curate, create, and synthesize content to express their personal curiosity, solve problems, and demonstrate their acquisition of knowledge. Rethinking Digital Citizenship- Digital Citizenship has been a conversation in schools for several years. For the most part it’s been about avoiding trouble and staying safe online. This may not be really preparing our students to live and participate ethically and prosperously online. Let’s explore some shifts in thinking and ways to help our students and ourselves develop healthier, better perspectives and understandings. |
